That still won’t purge the GOP of the Ayn Rand Libertarians. They will inherit the party. They are just as crazy as Fund. Evangelicals.

Yep, people talk like the so-con wing of the party is holding the libertarian wing of the GOP back, but the reality is libertarianism is even less popular. If it was otherwise, why has the Libertarian Party always been a fringe group, and Ron Paul has always been a fringe presidential candidate? Libertarianism has nothing to offer people who aren’t rich, and it certainly won’t attract racial minorities by supporting the right of business owners to discriminate. I don’t expect the GOP to outright endorse marriage equality, but I would assume by 2016 the marriage amendment won’t be in the platform anymore, since its already a lost cause now. However the GOP should be able to keep the socons in line with its old stand-by, the abortion issue.

Either way, the “big tent” is poisoned. The old military, capitalist, religious alliance is destroying itself. This leaves the party fractured and easier to defeat.

So if Democrats lose in 2014 or 2016, it won’t be because Republicans became sane again. It’ll be because Democrats obsessed over what Repbulicans in congress won’t let them do, without making enough time for what things they can do. For example, President Obama needs to force the VA and Department of Defense to get their ducks in a row so they can catch-up on the unconscionably-long backlog of wounded vets seeking medical treatment.

Doing marginal amounts of good looks better in election years than just complaining about banging your head against the same wall.

IMHO, it was only a matter of time before the GOP revealed its’ true self to the evangelicals. I have always thought that when this happened, many of the evangelicals would be surprised at how they allowed themselves to be used by the corporatists in the GOP. I have no sympathy for the evangelicals because they willingly allowed themselves to be guided by the followers of Ayn Rand, someone who under no conditions could be called a friend to anyone, except the wealthy. How a group of so-called Christians could align themselves with the principles of a cold-hearted individual like Ayn Rand has always boggled my mind because this goes against everything Christianity stands for.

On NPR the other day there was talk of the GOP splitting off a third party over same-sex marriage.

I’m confident that wouldn’t amount to much. Back in the nineties, it looked for a short time like the Reform Party might amount to something. And there is already at least one socon party, the Constitution Party.

More like the Evangelicals revealed their true bigoted, reality-denying selves to the American people, making Republicans unelectable. The Republicans were happy to have their votes, but their hateful anti-scientific views alienated every sane person in the process, so they have to be cut loose.
